Costner to play high school coach?

Kevin Costner is poised to join the cast of upcoming track team movie McFarland.

Variety reports that the actor - who has starred in sporting films including Field Of Dreams, Bull Durham and Tin Cup - is in final negotiations for the Disney and Mayhem Pictures flick.

The film is based on the true story of a school coach (who would be played by Kevin) in the predominantly poor Californian town of McFarland, who creates a "championship-winning dynasty".

Disney is said to have been developing the project since 2004.

Meanwhile, last week Kevin received an Emmy nomination for his performance in historical TV drama Hatfields And McCoys.
