Local chile growers hope to make the Viva New Mexico Chile Festival an annual event

?

New Mexicans are invited to join local chile growers from the Middle Rio Grande Valley for the first ever Viva New Mexico Chile Festival at 1420 Desert Willow Rd, Los Lunas.

The festival starts Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, September 9 from 10 a.m. to 7p.m.

In effort to keep one of New Mexico's most valuable traditions alive, Wagner Farms, Sichler Farms and KD Farms collaborated to host the celebration.

The event will include food and live music from groups Tobias Rene and El Gringo. There will be chile contests, hayrides, a beer garden for adults and much more. Most importantly local chile vendors will sell chile by the pound or the sack.

?Everyone talks about Hatch chile, but you know, the chile that's grown in this area is, well, I'm not going to start a fight.?Roxanne Wagner of Wagner Farms said. ?I'll let our customers to be the ones to tell us that it's the best in New Mexico.?
