Sun-beds and skin cancer

The use of sun-beds is not recommended, especially by people under the age of eighteen. Teenage use of sun-beds dramatically increases the risk of skin cancer later in life.

Did you know that:

  • The World Health Organisation has classified the use of sun-beds as its highest risk category, effectively aligning it with tobacco?
  • In April 2011, legislation banning under eighteens from using sun-beds was introduced in England and Wales? Businesses that fail to comply are fined heavily.
  • Over exposure to sun-beds can precipitate skin cancer, cataracts, premature ageing and suppress the immune system?

Speak to your doctor or dermatologist about possible disadvantages before using a sun-bed.
