Sidelines: Butte baseball players move on

Three Butte College student-athletes, Ben Manley, J.D. Doran and Cole Wells, have committed to play baseball next year at three different universities.

Doran, from Clayton Valley High in Concord, was second on the Roadrunners in innings pitched with 59. He led the team with six saves and 17 appearances. He was selected first-team All-Golden Valley Conference. He was also the team's most valuable player in 2013 and will join former Roadrunner Tanner McIntyre at Virginia Tech University.

Wells, a graduate of Heritage High School in Brentwood, finished the year 2-2 in five starts while appearing in 10 games. He will attend Eastern New Mexico University, a Division II school in Portales, N.M.

Manley, a graduate of Dayton High School in Oregon, started 11 games in his sophomore year at Butte with a record of 4-4 while posting a 4.03 ERA in 13 appearances. He is signing with Campbellsville University, an NAIA school in Campbellsville, Ky., which finished the 2013 season with a 39-20 record.
