AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine's Republican Party is gearing up to select new leadership. The Republican State Committee is expected to meet on Saturday in Augusta to choose the new GOP state chair and vice chair. The election follows the resignation of former Chairman Richard Cebra, who stepped down earlier this month after six months on the job. The party said Cebra left for personal reasons. Vice Chairwoman Beth O'Connor also resigned. Thirty-nine committee members announced their support for former state Senate President Rick Bennett for chairman in an email obtained by The Associated Press on Friday. The libertarian-leaning Republican Liberty Caucus said Friday that it is also unanimously backing Bennett for chair.
