President Bill Clinton does the Golden Globes

As NBC television telecast the Golden Globes which honored Hollywood?s finest motion pictures and television programs on Sunday night, President Bill Clinton made a startling appearance. Clinton walked out on stage ? obviously to the surprise of many of the top Hollywood performers, directors, and producers that filled the audience.

Clinton was there to introduce the best picture-nominated film ?Lincoln? which has also been nominated for 12 Academy Awards including best picture in that upcoming awards ceremony. The former president was extremely warmly received with a thunderous applause accompanied by a standing ovation.

In spite of accolades for "Lincoln" - the movie - "Argo" won best dramatic film at the awards. Daniel Day-Lewis who portrayed President Abraham Lincoln in the film, however, won the best actor award.

After Clinton gave his brief presentation and the film clip of ?Lincoln? was shown, co-host Amy Pohler said what was likely the funniest moment of the night when she stood center-stage with amazement in her voice and face and said:

Wow! What an exciting special guest. That was Hillary Clinton?s husband!

Clinton suggested, during his brief presentation of the best motion picture nominee, that the legislative battles of Lincon's time were similar to those of current times.

The Golden Globe Awards are handed out annually in Hollywood to the motion pictures and television programs that the Foreign Press Association believes are superior to the others.

Bill Clinton, the former president of the United States, is married to Hillary Clinton who is stepping down from her position as United States Secretary of State at the end of President Barack Obama?s first term in office.

Another surprise later in the show was when former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the award for best foreign film ?Amor? ? an Austrian film ? with Sylvester Stallone as his co-presenter. The audience reaction to Schwarzenegger?s appearance on stage was light applause.

Additionally, Julianna Moore won for best miniseries or motion picture made for television- actress for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in "Game Change" - the movie about Palin's rise to popularity and national attention as the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate alongside John McCain as the presidential candidate. Naturally, with Tina Fey being one of the two co-hosts, there were other references to Sarah Palin, likely Fey's most famous characters of whom she portrays in a comedic sense.
